Tornado Damage from last weeks Storms

I'd been wanting to drive out a few miles from the horse barn and see some of the damage from last Wednesday's terrible storms.  It was last week at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning that I was up and glued to my T.V., the state was getting hit and one of the areas was only about 8 or 9 miles from us as the crow flies.  It didn't take long to go down some local back roads and see what happened

It did hit in a fairly rural area, but that's kind of decieving.....there was plenty of structual damage.....

No words, seeing is believing........

Look at how the items are still sitting on the bookshelf to the left (above)

Dumpster just sitting in the road...........

There weren't any human casualities in this particular area, but there were plenty of stories about cattle being tossed around, horses found in bad shape and needing to be destroyed, and I always think about the small animals that live wild in the woods.......deer, rabbits, squirrels, birds..........I don't think the picture above with the crosses related to the tornado, but I saw it and thought it was pretty symbolic

Had this storm changed direction even slightly we would've very likely been right in it's way..........the thing about most of these tornados last week was that not only were they on the ground for a long period of time, but the swath of destruction was incredible with most of the touchdowns, some 3 or 4 miles wide in some places...........

When you see scenes like this up close, smell the resin from the downed pines, and witness items in fields that were blown from perhaps miles away, it really makes you feel small, fragile, and very, very lucky.  Please pray for the victims of last weeks storms and just think, it could so easily have been any of us, mother nature doesn't discriminate

My thoughts are going out to anyone dealing with a natural disaster, both past and present. Hopefully the help of family, friends, country and state will bring them some relief as they try to put their lives back together..............

  2. Oh, my heart just breaks for all the devastation that these storms caused. I really feel for those that lost family and their homes. The photo with the bookcase in tact is so bizarre. Tornadoes don't discriminate...very true. Glad you are okay. We've kept the prayers going. I have family in TN, SC and GA. They are all okay...thankful!
    Take care! ~Michelle

  8. Living in the southern part of "tornado alley" here in Texas, we've seen our share of huge twisters. Thankfully, we've never had damage ourselves from one. As common as they are here, we've never (at least in my lifetime) had tornados as numerous and as destructive as those last week were. It just devastating. Glad to hear you were spared and my thoughts are with all of those affected.

  9. The tornadoes here were quite devastating. As we watched the news, saw the massive tornado tear through Tuscaloosa, AL, saw the familiar places blow up in front of our eyes, prayed that all our friends would be safe... it was a day that changed the lives and hearts of many.
    Blessings!

  10. I just found your blog. I live in Georgia, too but was lucky enough to have the storms go by us. I have a love for ironstone, too since starting my blog last year. Blogging is so darn addictive isn't it. Hope your drop by some time.
