Dreaming can be SOOO addicting!

I am the first to admit I am an old house lover......I love looking at them, touring them in books and on the Internet (many of the blogs can hold me transfixed for a very long time!).......pretty much dreaming of how much I would love to live in one, and if it were in disrepair the challenge of bringing it back to life.  Luckily, or unluckily for me, there is a turn of the century farm house not too far from where I live that has been empty for a few years. It is off the beaten path and shares it's country neighborhood with some, er, less desirable tenants.  The only person who would probably give her a serious look will be someone who appreciates and desires all the charm that only an old homestead can give.  Someone like me........only I can't entertain that thought at the moment.  I would love to though, and in the meantime, she sits not far away and allows me to roam her boundaries and peek in her windows..........and dream when I need that old house "fix".

                                               I give you the Farmhouse...............

Isn't that a dreamy view tucked in
behind those amazing trees?   This is from the back
of the property looking at the rear of the house

Something about this side picture just makes me associate
                                     it with "grand moms" house..........

Front view from street

Side views

front porch

side entrance /kitchen

looking at the rear at the present kitchen/side
entrance.....can you just imagine the potential
of enlarging the kitchen and maybe
building a screen porch?

But wait......there's even a small barn in the back!

Be still my beating heart...........!!

rough, yes....but structurally sound, nothing that a
little work and effort can't make better

no old homestead is without it's beautiful trees and
forgotten plantings

Old rose bushes

forgotten bed of iris? daylillies?

view looking across the street

and from both directions

So there, this is my current dream house....
it's not mine, but it might as well be...
I've already got the brown broad fencing
up for the horses, there's going to be a small
goldfish pond in the back under the shade,
and a bright white picket fence is going to
enclose the front of the yard which will eventually
be reseeded and bordered by wildflower beds and white hydrangeas

oh, and let's not forget about the vegetable garden, near the little
chicken coop

A girl can dream, can't she?!!

Thanks for allowing me to share my dream with you today!!

  1. oh it's lovely with so much potential! It doesn't look like it needs too much on the outside. Someone needs to adopt it and give it a beautiful makeover. It deserves it. I, too, love looking at old houses.

  5. I'm right there
    with you, girlie....
    And might I add:
    paint the porch
    ceiling sky blue
    and add a porch
    swing? Honeysuckle
    vine around the porch
    supports? And while
    we are at it, how
    about a boxwood kitchen
    garden, filled with
    herbs, veggies and a
    cutting garden? We
    might as well DREAM
    BIG!!!

  7. Devon,
It's lovely, a place like that gives you a lot to dream about! So much potential! I had a house similar to that in N!C. It took a lot of work but it was so worth it in the end. Now, I'd just want to move in somewhere with all the basics done and just decorate! It's so fun to think about all the possibilities!
