Bedroom Shelf

I recently got the urge to do something, anything, to my bedroom that I thought would switch things up........I'm not about to go rearranging furniture, yet.............but I had spent the morning looking at some of my favorite books on decorating with white, and I thought "I can do that too."   I had a shelf that I had bought at an antique store a few years ago, and I thought it deserved to have center stage across from my bed where I could admire it.  The hard part, for me, is always figuring out how to make things look GOOD......I have always had a hard time decorating, even though I love it........it seems to take me forever of trying and retrying my efforts.  But anyway, this is what I ended up with.......

I have a rather large, er, ample supply of ironstone all around my house, so
I went around to the different collections and borrowed some things to put
on the shelf

The shelf sits over my very favorite piece of furniture, a pine (what else?) dresser
that my mother had told me was the first piece of furniture she ever bought when
she was a working girl back in the 40's.

My mom's been gone for 12 years now, but I can remember loving this chest
even back when I was little......and her telling me how she bought it out of an
antique shop in Richmond, where she lived and worked at the time.

I also remember growing up with a small, unassuming ironstone platter at the dinner table most nights........

But I'll save that for another post,
the platter that started it all......

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week!!
Thanks for stopping by!

  11. I LOVE your shelf! What a wonderful display of your vintage items especially your Ironstone. I also love your old clocks. I kick myself for not buying one I saw at the huge antique mall last time I was there. Next time if it's still there...I'm going to buy it. On the bottom shelf you have an old hand mirror...it looks just like the one from my Grandmother's set that was on her dresser. I have the other pieces like the brush and powder container and one that was used for keeping your hair in from your brush! There is also a tray that they sit on and a velvet lined box. They all look like ivory but I was told they are not. I don't care..I love them anyway. Your mothers chest of drawers is beautiful...I love the patina and I also love your Grandmother's platter. I have a similar one only it's quite large. I think when these things belonged to our loved ones it makes them even more special. Enjoy your new shelf...it looks LOVELY!
