Anyone who knows me knew I had been on the prowl for a vintage dress form. Trouble is, they are so hot right now, so scarce it seems, and so expensive!! I pretty much gave up finding one close to me, and that left me having to pass on others that only offered pick-up or an additional hefty shipping charge. I had watched enough on eBay to get an idea of what it was gonna cost me, and I drooled over many that I had to pass on. Last month I found one on Etsy and went for it........meet "Louise", my new roommate......
Does anyone else out there get daring with a rather, ahem, expensive purchase when it gets close to one's birthday? I told myself that this was one thing I really wanted, that no one in my family would know how to find (or shell out the money for) to surprise me with. I made myself wait a day, then asked the seller a million questions (he was so super patient, he offered to place a reserve on her for 24 hours while I took more time to think it over) I think the clincher on this particular dress form was this.....
It took me no time to see that as a sign, since I was born in 1961. Thank goodness for Visa......here she is!
She's missing her finial on top and the foot pedal, but I can still raise or lower her by hand.........
I am so glad I bought her, she has the perfect staining I was hoping to find, and just a few wears and tears to her.........
I'm having so much fun dressing her and piling on the pearls........I have some vintage clothing I plan to put on her, but so far I can't bring myself to cover her up...........
Is it silly to react this way? It took me a long time to find one and decide to buy it, and I am so happy that I did, she is everything I wanted in a room mate, and she's my age too!
Thank you for stopping by the blog today, I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!

That is a beauty. I want one, but not sure I have room for one.
ReplyDeleteOh Devon...she's so beautiful!!!! I don't blame you for jumping through hoops for her! I'm so glad you found this gorgeous dress form...she was meant to be with you ~ I hope you are doing so good, hugs and love, Dawn
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! "Louise" is beautiful! I gasped a little when I saw that first picture! And I do NOT think it is silly AT ALL to be so excited over her! I love how you used the pearl necklaces on her, by the way. And I do understand how it would be hard to cover the dress form up, too! I would feel the same way. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a beautiful Friday and weekend, my friend!
Blessings,
Jenni
Louise is a beauty. I can only imagine what a "spiffy dresser" she'll be! :)
ReplyDeleteWe are wayyyyyyy over due for a chat, woman!!
I'm so swamped with work but will definitely check in with you this weekend. So much to talk about!!!
I want to see Louise do a fashion show next. LOL
xoxo
You look so much younger than her but she's still great! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh I absolutely love her!!~
ReplyDeleteI have a bit of an obsession with these too. I have 3 in my house and would always make room for another if the price is right! :)
She is just perfect!!
I'm now following you on Linky, your blog is fabulous!
Have a lovely weekend.
Sincerely,
Melinda
Love all the bling on your dress form! She's lovely!
ReplyDeleteBlessings & hugs,
Karen
I can feel the love you have for your birthday gift to yourself. You are going to have so much fun with that. A major department store gave my daughter one a while back when she was in art school. It has been a really unique thing to have and so much fun to dress up (or down). I like the way you have her hanging out in her pearls.
ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous! You are so lucky to have found this treasure. I'm sure you will have years of fun playing with it. Lucky, lucky girl.
ReplyDeleteOh she is so special, any wonder you could not resist her! I am so excited to find and follow new special places. I have no doubt I will enjoy engaging and supporting this wonderful space you have created. Thank you for sharing, I am so glad to meet you. I hope you will find some time to come visit me soon. Cheers SpecialK XoXo
ReplyDeleteShe is wonderful. A few years ago I wanted one in the worst way. I gave up and made a new one look old, she works. But now that I see yours.

Devon,
ReplyDeleteSometimes we have to give ourselves the "perfect" BD present, there are just some things others don't have enough expertise to get it right! Louise is perfect and am loving her in all her splendid "undressed" glory, the pearls add the perfect touch! So glad you were able after such a dillegent search to find the perfect "roomate"!
Rebecca
I absolutely love that fact that you're the same age. I think that's a sign that she was meant for you. What a beautiful gift you found for yourself :)
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI visited your blog today - I saw you on 'Peeking through the Sunflowers.' Your blog is lovely. I noticed that we have a lot of the same interests. While I was scrolling down, I noticed all the vintage items. I love vintage things too. Me and my daughters started a blog, and we would love it if you could visit us and follow. I would enjoy coming back to visit with you. Your blog is so simple and pretty. I hope to hear from you, and have a lovely evening.
